Still Living With
What the Builder Put In?

Plants chosen for cost, not for how they'd look five years later. Planter beds overbuilt with cheap fill. No soil amendments. No thought to grading, drainage, or how things would actually grow in over time. How much longer are you going to drive past your own property wishing it looked different?

Here's what most people don't realize: site preparation is the single biggest factor in whether a landscape thrives or struggles. Removing old soil, resetting grades for planter beds, yard edges, and driveway lines, amending soil so plants can actually root and grow — that's the work that makes everything look right as it fills in. Skipping site prep to save money is the most expensive shortcut in landscaping. We design and install landscapes built for South Florida conditions — and it starts with getting the foundation right.

Every project starts with a walkthrough and a conversation about what you want.

How Long Have You Been
"Planning to Redo" Your Landscape?

Whether it's a full landscape redesign, a targeted refresh, or ongoing landscape maintenance in Boca Raton, Delray Beach, or Lighthouse Point — the longer you wait, the more overgrown, outdated, and frustrating it gets.
Here's how we make it happen.

Full Landscape Design & Installation

Starting from a blank slate or rethinking the entire property? Landscape design and installation in Boca Raton, Delray Beach, and Lighthouse Point all start the same way — with site prep. Removing old plants, replacing exhausted soil when needed, resetting grades for planter beds and driveway edges. Then we amend the soil so your plants have something to grow into, and we build a complete landscape layout — plant selection, placement, hardscape integration — designed for functionality, plant health, and how you actually want to enjoy your property as everything grows in.

Plant Change-Outs & Refreshes

How many dead or struggling plants are you walking past every day? Not everything needs a full redesign. We swap out what's tired, replace what didn't make it, and upgrade the areas that never felt right. The right plants for your light, soil, and style — sourced and installed so they actually thrive instead of slowly dying.

Hand-Selected Plant Material

Done with the builder specials? Every specimen we install is hand-selected — we don't fill a truck at the wholesaler and bring whatever was on hand that morning. We choose plant material you actually love, sourced from growers we trust, matched to South Florida light, soil, and salt exposure. When clients expect the best plant material on their property — boxwoods, ligustrums, hibiscus, podocarpus, foxtail palms, royal palms, bougainvillea — we go pick it out ourselves. That's what makes a landscape design in Boca Raton, Delray Beach, or Lighthouse Point feel intentional from day one instead of generic.

What Does a Landscape Installation
Done Right Actually Look Like?

Most landscape jobs skip site prep, rush the install, and leave you with plants that struggle within months. Here's the difference when it's done properly.

1

Walkthrough & Vision

We walk your property together and talk about what you want it to look and feel like. What's working, what's not, and where you want to take it. No pressure, no pitch — just a conversation.

2

Design & Proposal

We put together a layout with plant selections, placement, and clear pricing. You see exactly what's going in, where it's going, and what it costs — before any work begins.

3

Site Prep, Installation & Follow-Up

Before a single plant goes in the ground, we handle the site preparation that makes or breaks a landscape — removing old soil, resetting grades, amending beds, and dialing in drainage so water flows where it should. Then our crew handles the full installation. We follow up to make sure plants are establishing, soil is settling, and everything is growing in the way it was designed to.

Landscape Design Questions We Hear Most

Landscape design and installation pricing depends on property size, plant selection, size of plants, project scope, and how much site prep is needed. A targeted plant refresh costs less than a full property redesign. We walk your property, discuss your vision, and deliver a detailed proposal with transparent pricing before any work begins. The best plants for South Florida depend on sun exposure, soil type, salt tolerance, and your aesthetic preferences. We use native palms and native plants wherever possible for hardier results and a natural look — including bougainvillea, crotons, bromeliads, silver buttonwood, clusia, and a variety of palm species. Every property is different, and every plant we select is chosen for long-term performance in South Florida conditions, not just how it looks on install day.
Yes. Unlike most landscape installers who hand off maintenance to someone else, we build and maintain. High-Detail Gardening: The Hand Pruning Difference

Most landscape companies use power equipment for everything. We do too — when it's the right tool. But for the plants that reward detailed attention (Green Island Ficus, Japanese Blueberries, Bougainvilleas, Allamandas, topiaries, vine work), nothing beats hand pruning with quality hand shears. The questions below cover when hand pruning matters and what to expect.

Does Florida Boys offer hand pruning and hand shearing on landscape plants?

Yes. For high-detail gardening, hand pruning with hand shears produces the cleanest cuts and the best new growth from plant material. We use hand shears on Green Island Ficus, Japanese Blueberries, Bougainvilleas, Allamandas, topiaries, vine work, and a wide range of specialty ornamental plantings. The technique takes significantly more time than machine trimming, but the outcome is noticeable — denser regrowth, better blooming, and cleaner plant architecture. When budget allows, hand pruning is the upgrade that separates good gardens from exceptional ones.

What plants benefit most from hand pruning vs machine trimming?

Plants that respond best to hand pruning are those grown for blooming, density, or detailed shape: Green Island Ficus (especially when used as a hedge or topiary), Japanese Blueberries, Bougainvilleas (which bloom on new growth — machine trimming cuts off the flower buds), Allamandas, formal topiaries, and any vine work. Machine trimming damages individual leaves and stems on these plants, leaving brown edges and inconsistent regrowth. Hand pruning cuts each branch cleanly at the right location for optimal new growth and blooming.

Why does hand pruning cost more than machine trimming?

Hand pruning takes significantly more time — sometimes three to five times longer than machine work. You're cutting one branch at a time, evaluating each plant's structure, and making individual decisions about where to cut for the best regrowth. The result is noticeably better: cleaner cuts, denser regrowth, better blooming, and longer-lasting plant health. For clients with high-detail gardens who want the best outcome, the time investment is worth it. We genuinely love it when clients prioritize this work — it's where landscape maintenance becomes craft.
