Most sod failures happen because the prep was rushed. We don't skip steps — and we don't leave after the last pallet goes down.

Step 1: Old Grass Kill-Off

Nothing new grows right on top of something old

We treat the existing turf to fully kill it off before anything gets torn out. This prevents old grass, runners, and weeds from coming back through your new sod. Depending on the grass type, this takes 7–14 days — and it's worth every one of them.

Step 2: Removal & Clean-Out

Strip it down to a clean slate

Once the old turf is dead, we strip it out completely — sod, root layer, debris, all of it. If there's excess material, rock, or old fill that needs to go, we haul it off. You're left with clean, workable ground.

The foundation everything else sits on

We grade the entire area for proper drainage — away from the house, away from hardscape, and toward the right flow points. Low spots get filled, high spots get knocked down. If your property needs additional clean fill or topsoil brought in, we handle that too.

We adjust your irrigation zones for the new sod's watering schedule — heavier at first, then dialed back as roots take hold.
